The hierarchy editor allows you to fully customize the display of your hierarchy column.

Fixed Colors

If you use a column in a chart, you might want the values within them to always have a specific color. This is what we call Consistent colors. When clicking the "Edit hierarchy" option, you see all the different values for a given column. Here you can assign a specific color to a specific value.

Labels

You can change the label that will be displayed. Use this to translate your database values into business relevant terms, or even actual multi-lingual translations (see here). Alternatively, and more ideal, you can do this in your data source when preparing your data for analytics. When clicking the "Edit hierarchy" option, you see all the different values for a given column. Here you can double-click on a value to change the label displayed.

Levels

You can create levels within your columns and thus group together values. When clicking the "Edit hierarchy" option, you can 'Enable hierarchy’. Here you can create different levels, name them and place your original values within these levels. Once created, you can now use any of the levels, including your original values, on the dashboard.
