Luzmo supports connecting all kinds of data source(s), using either our native connectors or a custom plugin connector for a realtime data connection. Next to that, you can also upload data to Luzmo via our UI or API. In this article, we'll focus on the Connections created after providing the necessary credentials to connect to your data source via a connector, and how to make the same connections available to your colleagues!
If you're using a native or plugin connector, you'll first need to create a Connection that contains specific authentication properties to gain access to your data source.
You can make a connection by clicking the 'New connection' button and selecting your desired data source. Fill in the needed information and you are good to go! For specific information based on your data source, check out the "Making a XXX Connection" for your specific data source.
Via the Connections screen, you can at all times update the details of your connection. We'd strongly recommend giving your Connection a relevant name to allow easily identifying which specific Connection is used (e.g. "Production database", "Customer A database", etc.).
To avoid multiple users creating the same connection to a specific data source, we highly recommend sharing the initial connection with the users who should be able to import their own datasets. This ensures a consistent identifier for a specific connection, which could be useful in case e.g. some connection credentials need to be periodically rotated, or to facilitate overriding specific data source proprerties as explained in this Academy article. Besides that, Luzmo could push down the join for linked datasets in case they come from the same connection.
"owner" access to allow them to completely manage them (i.e. use, edit, share, and delete the Connection(s))."can use" access to allow them to use the Connection(s) to add new datasets to Luzmo. It may however be more interesting to only allow your "Developers" group to add these datasets, to ensure only a select few users in your organization are responsible for appropriately configuring the datasets before making them accessible to the designer users.Once you've created the appropriate connection(s), it's time to start adding the dataset(s) that are required to build your first dashboard(s). The following article will assist you in ensuring your datasets are optimally shared.
