The Date filter object allows end users to specify date ranges. Either a custom date range can be specified or a common period can be selected, for example "Today" or "This month".
The Date filter can be found underneath the filters section. Click on it or drag and drop it into the canvas.
The only type of data you can insert in this filter are datetimes like years, months or days.
You can click on the filter object after adding a column to it, which results in a pop-up screen containing a calendar. At the left side of this calendar are several options as well for selecting a predefined time period, like ‘last 30 days’. The charts in your dashboard will adapt immediately after choosing the desired time range or time period.
The Date filter is a really dynamic object with a lot of specific settings to discover. These can be found by clicking on the little gear and make customization possible.
For starters, you can choose whether to show the calendar or predefined range options by using the ‘Custom Range option’ and ‘Display range options’ buttons.
The predefined range options that you can select at the left side of the calendar are managed underneath the ‘Range options’ section. These already existing ranges can be changed or deleted, or new ones can be added by pressing the orange button ‘+ Add range’.
Underneath the ‘Calendar’ section are a few options concerning the month- and year dropdown menu, the presence of week numbers and whether or not to show unavailable days. These can be pretty handy as well.
Date filters can be set to initialize to a default range when loading the dashbaord by activating the ‘Initialize with filter’ option. Date filters can also be initialized on a per-user basis, this Academy article explains how to do so.
