When using slicer filter, data is visualized as a list of values with a tick box next to each value. In this manner users are in full control of data they want to see and analyze. They can easily select or unselect a certain value and slice their data.
Slicer filter can be found underneath the ‘Filters’ section. You can add it to the editor by clicking on it or by drag and drop. There is one data slot to add data to - ‘Dimension’.
A column with any data type can be used in this slot.
When adding data, it will appear as a list with tick boxes. Once selecting or unselecting one of the values the rest of the dashboard is filtered at once.
In case you have a long list of values enabling Search option would be handy.
Also Multiselect is available, so you can choose several values as a filter. When enabled, an extra option pops-up - 'Filter with Apply button'. Setting it on allows you to toggle between reactively applying filtering immediately after selecting each item and applying filtering once after selecting all needed options. Turning on this option will reduce queries number without a need to reload linked widgets on each selection.
Show ‘select all’ option will allow you to make an action to all the values at ones - like resetting the filter.
If you want to make your slicer filter look more sophisticated - Display as buttons would help change the look and feel.
Order basically does what is says - allows you to decide the data order - ascending or descending.
Feel free to play with the layout options by switching to horizontal or table view of the slicer filter.
You can also enable a filter initialization. As such the initialized filter will be applied immediately when opening the dashboards next time.
Columns from multiple datasets can be added to the same dropdown filter in the 'Dimension' slot. This can allow you to filter multiple datasets to the same value(s), even if they are not linked together.
